LOCATION AND THE SPECIFIC FEATURES OF THE LOCATION

Embraced by
the mighty
Danube

Apart from this ambitious, dedicated duo, a part of this successful wine story can also be attributed to the micro-location of the vineyard. The Erdut wine hills are embraced by the mighty Danube. The Danube surrounds these hills from the north, south, and east, making this continental peninsula an excellent place for cultivating vineyards.

The quality of the wine, apart from the great knowledge and effort by the winemakers, may be attributed to the fertile soil of the Erdut hills, which provides a specific aromatic profile to our wines.

We approach every Jakovac wine with much attention, from the first grape to the bottle of top-quality wine. The production of our wines starts with a careful selection at the vineyard, and it is cared for by our renowned oenologists.

Throughout the years, we turned one ordinary wine cellar into an actual factory of unique flavours and scents that every sommelier responds to.

Grape varieties and their specific features

Graševina

An international variety whose origin has not been fully defined. This variety has been domesticated in Croatia, as well as all over Europe. Apart from being one of the best-known and favoured varieties, it is also a variety that thrives in Croatia, particularly in the continental part. This variety, depending on the location where it is grown, may provide wines with various aromas. The wine can be light with dominant citrusy notes or sweeter with a honey aroma.

Gewurztraminer

Same as Graševina, the exact origin of the Gewurztraminer is not defined. The wines produced from this variety may be semi-dry or semi-sweet, their aromas are usually more intensive, with straw-yellow to golden-yellow colour. The Gewurztraminer variety is commonly grown in continental European wine hills. In Croatia, it grows best in Podunavlje, Slavonija, Moslavina, Zagorje and Međimurje.

Sauvignon Blanc

Originating from France, its intensity and recognisable refreshing sourness places it on the list of best-known and most widespread varieties in the world. The primary notes of the wines made from this variety are floral, citrusy, and somewhat grassy, and notes of pear and peach may also be observed.

Chardonnay

Similar to Sauvignon Blanc, this is one of the most widespread and most recognisable varieties in the world. It is considered to be one of the oldest industrial varieties, and it has been used for decades. It is estimated that he origin of the plant itself is in Burgundy, and it is also estimated that this variety was created through accidental, natural crossing of several different varieties.

Cabernet Sauvignon

The best-known red wine grape variety in the world, also originating from France. This variety was produced by crossing two other varieties, Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc. The wine made from this variety is thick and semi-sweet, and sour and fruity notes are dominant. Aged wine of this variety may also acquire a sweeter vanilla scent.
